Father of 5, Dr Jason van der Velde, BAA, MBChB, MSc (DM), MCEM, FFTACC, is Clinical Lead for MEDICO Cork at Cork University Hospital, where he works in Prehospital Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Retrieval. He is also the voluntary Medical Director of West Cork Rapid Response. Deeply committed to medical education, he coordinates 4th Year Emergency Medicine and Defence and Security Medicine clinical placements at University College Cork. His research interest lies in physiological resuscitation, particularly Chest Compression Synchronised Ventilation (CCSV). He recently completed an eight year term as Vice Chair of Ireland’s prehospital regulator, the Prehospital Emergency Care Council.
